The beloved children’s animation of the early 2000’s is getting its live action debut.
Lilo and Stitch brings new meaning to “Ohana as family” as it follows the original story line as perfectly as it can, though some might have disagreements of key characters missing. Aside from that, 20 years later it brings a new generation to meet the loveable misfit, 626.
The live action adaptation keeps the same voice (Chris Sanders) as Stitch and introduces Maia Kealoha as young Lilo. All in all, one must say she is a perfect match to play Lilo. The ackwardness of a young girl who just lost her parents and is just trying to fit in and make friend, shines through Kealoha’s performance. Similarly, Nani (played by Sydney Agudong) is impressive as a older sister trying to make a home for Lilo, while trying to live her own life.
Finally, the cast wouldn’t be complete without Zach Galifinakis as Jumba, Billy Magnussen as Pleakley and Courtney Vance as Cobra Bubbles. Ultimately one feels like we are watching the cartoon in live action form. That by itself isn’t a bad thing, though some may have issues of bringing iconic cartoons to life as it destroys the feeling of the original as being special.
That being said, the live action Lilo and Stitch came out in theaters May 22, giving the Final Reckoning a run for its money and spot at the box office. It’s currently playing in a theater near you. The summer blockbusters are here only for your viewing pleasure as we see who takes top box office opening weekend. It’s truly a Mission Stitchpossible weekend, after all.
