“Novocaine” Movie Review

In a phrase, it’s another “coming of age” superhero film on the big screen. This time Nathan Caine is born with a rare genetic disorder that results in him not being able to feel pain. When he finally takes a chance at love with a coworker who lures him on a first date, he realizes things could be different. After that same girl is taken “hostage” by bank robbers, Nathan sees his opportunity as he goes from mild mannered banker to full blown superhero.

All in all, Novocaine is a surprisingly exciting film that will hold audience’s attention for the entire hour 50-minute run time. Starring Companion’s Jack Quaid and Amber Midthunder as the love interest, all in all, the chemistry between the two are as much awkward to create some suspense to the climatic finale. Additionally, Spiderman’s Jacob Batalon takes on the role of sidekick to Nathan, in a similar comedic way as his previous role. It’s as though the actors were made for this fun-loving, action-packed comedy.

Overall, the film does a good job of holding an original storyline, while making some obvious cinematic references to other superhero films. It’s a film that will have you on the edge of your seats, laughing and being thoroughly entertained the whole way through.

Novocaine came out in theaters March 14, 2025 and is currently showing in one near you.
