“Sinners” REVIEW

Sinners” REVIEW

It’s a vampire musical, especially when supposedly music ushers in the evil. Set in the 1930’s, Sinners explores the concepts of good and evil as twin brothers return to Mississippi with a mission of creating a music themed bar. What they are yet to realize is the evil they fled from in Chicago is waiting for them there.

The film stars, Creed’s Michael B Jordan as he takes on not one character but two in the role of Smoke and Stack. All in all he shines in portraying to very different characters that all though they look alike, they can be distinguished by their characteristics. Also the film stars a long list of supporting cast members including “Loving’s” Andrene Ward-Hammond, Blink Twice’s Saul Williams, Miles Caton, and American Horror Story’s Tenaj L Jackson.

Set in the 1930’s western era, the film does a good job of capturing that genre. The old cars and bar room scenes instantly bring us back to the past all while anticipating what is to come. Similarly as said in the beginning, there is a bit of a musical aspect which will additionally draw musicians in though, the concept of music being a tool for harnessing evil, may not set well for true musical fans.

That being said, at 2 hour and 17 minute runtime, Sinners is a unique Vampire film that one has to see to understand. The trailer doesn’t do the film near enough justice as there are moments that will have audiences on the edge of their seats as they wonder when the next bite will come.

The film came out in theaters April 18th and is currently playing in one near you.
