90th Annual Oscars RECAP

Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 90th Annual Oscars at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Sunday March 4, 2018, and his opening monologue included last year’s best picture mix up as well as Oscar’s 90th birthday and also paid homage to the Time’s Up Movement.  Kimmel also encouraged short speeches for the winners with a jet ski to the one who has the shortest speech.

Best supporting actor was the first award presented by Viola Davis and awarded to Sam Rockwell for his first Oscar award for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri”.  So far,  the first speech was 1 minute and 29 seconds.

  1.   Gal Gadot and Armie Hammer presented the award for Hair and Make Up to “Darkest Hour”.
  2. The past best actress from 1955 for “All The Waterfront”, Eva Marie Saint presented the award for Costume Design to Mark Bridges as his second Oscar for “Phantom Thread”.
  3. Greta Gerwig and Laura Dern presented the award for Best Documentary to Bryan Fogal and Dan Cogan for the Netflix film, “Icarus”.
  4. Taraji P Henson introduced the first song up for Best Original Song, “Mighty River”, by Mary J. Blige who is the first actress to be nominated for Best Original Song and Best Supporting Actress.
  5. Kimmel read the first joke given out at the first awards ceremony in 1929, “Christopher Plummer is the youngest nominee”, coincidentally this year, Plummer is the oldest nominee.
  6. Ansel Elgort and Eiza Gonzalez gave out the award for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing both to “Dunkirk”.
  7. Kumail Nanjiani and Lupita Nyong’o presented the award for Production Design to “The Shape of Water”.
  8. Best original song nominee, “Remember Me” from Disney’s “Coco” was performed by the original cast members of the Animated film.
  9. Kimmel decided to add a trip to Lake Kabasu as an incentive for the shortest speech. Thus far, Mark Bridges (“Phantom Thread”) is ahead with 36 second speech.
  10. Rita Morena winner of the 1962 “West Side Story” presented Best Foreign Language Film to “A Fantastic Woman”, making this the first Oscar Win for Chile.
  11. Mahasula Ali who took Best Actor last year presented Best Actress in a Supporting Role to Allison Janney for “I, Tanya”.
  12.   The Cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, complete with BB 8, presented the award for Best Animated Short Film to Glen Keane and Kobe Bryant for “Dear Basketball” and best Animated Feature Film goes to “Coco”.
  13. Daniela Vega introduced the third song nominated from the film, “Call Me By Your Name”, performed by Sufjan Stevens, “Mystery of Love”.
  14. Gina Rodriguez and Tom Holland presented the award for Visual Effects to “Blade Runner 2049”.
  15. Matthew McConaughey awarded Best Film Editing to Lee Smith for “Dunkirk”.
  16.   Jimmy Kimmel also took a small break from the awards to thank the movie goers that were in the other theater across from the dolby theater and one of the fans in the theater, Mike Young introduced the next presenters.
  17. Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph presented the award for Documentary Short Subject to Frank Stiefel for “Heaven is a Traffic Jam On The 405” and the award for Best Live Action Short Film goes to Chris Overton and Rachel Shenton for “The Silent Child”.
  18. Dave Chappelle introduced the fourth best original song, by Andra Day and Common, “Stand Up For Something” from the movie, “Marshall”.
  19. Ashley Judd, Salma Hayek and Annabella Sciorra talks about movies and how this year’s films especially highlight the very essence of the “Time’s Up” Movement  and how they are making a difference for what is to come next with words of encouragement for future projects.
  20. Chadwick Boseman and Margot Robbie presented the award for best adapted screen play to James Ivory for “Call Me By Your Name”.
  21. Nicole Kidman presented the award for best original screenplay to Jordan Peele for his first Oscar win for “Get Out”.
  22. Wes Studi introduced a special tribute to the films that had a strong military story over the years, several of which were honored with a Oscar nomination over the last 90 years as it thanked our currently military veterans and soldiers.
  23. Sandra Bullock presented the award for Best Cinematography to Roger A Deakins for “Blade Runner 2049”.
  24. Zendaya introduces the final nominated song, sung by Keala Settle, “This Is Me”, from “The Greatest Showman”, which received a standing ovation for the performance.
  25.   1974 Academy Award winner, Christopher Walken presented best original score to composer Alexandre Desplat for “The Shape of Water”.
  26. Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel Miranda presented the award for best original song to Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for “Remember Me”.
  27. Jennifer Garner introduced the memorandum for those who left us last year, as Tom Petty’s song, “Top of the World” plays in the background.
  28. Emma Stone presents the award for Best Director to Guillermo Del Toro for his first Oscar win for “The Shape of Water”.
  29. Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren presented the award for Best Actor to Gary Oldman for his first Oscar for “Darkest Hour”.
  30. Jodie Foster and Jennifer Lawrence presented the award for Best Actress to Francis McDormand for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri”.
  31.   And the best picture, presented by Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, is…
