It’s the story about the art total from the perspective of the Immigrant couple who escapes Europe the same as any other in the early 1900’s. It’s the American Dream, though the American Dream is purely that for millions who come looking for it.
Asteroid City‘s Adrien Brody steps into that role as a Italian Jew fresh of the boat and in Ellis Island. His top priority besides making his dream come true is to get his wife and niece out of Hungary and with him. 5 years and one whole act he finally finds the means. Now it’s time to get busy which is what the second act is meant to do. All in all, Brody does an exceptional job of capturing all the emotions and more that an immigrant truly feels.
Additionally the chemistry that he has with his stage wife, Rogue One’s Felicity Jones, is spot one especially given the new challenges that she now has in America with her new diagnosis. It truly shows an immigrant couple at the heart of it all and what it takes to succeed. In a word, it takes love, hope and a little determination.
The incredible story of The Brutalist, though it is comprised of completely fictional characters, does hold a little truism as to what real immigrants go through on a day to day basis. It’s know wonder the film has already won awards including at the Golden Globes for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Mr. Brody. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how it stands at the much coveted Oscar Nominations.
At 3 hour 35 minute runtime the film is divided into two parts with a 15 minute intermission and though it may not be for everyone, it is certainly for those who long for the American dream and what it takes to make it come true. It’s currently playing at select theaters near you.
