There’s a new gangs heroes in town. Done in the most unconventional way with the most unconventional candidates, but they have the heart of what makes a good hero and that is the will to save.
Thunderbolts brings out old Marvel faces including the “New” Black Widow Yelena (Florence Pugh) and her father, the Red Guardian (David Harbour), as well as Winter Soldier‘s Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Ant-Man‘s Ghost (Hannah John Kamen) , while adding to the rad tag team introducing us to John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and “Bob” (Louis Pullman). All in all, Marvel has an interesting way of merging these characters together as each one bare a striking resemblance to the original Avenger franchise. That being said, they do a good job of making in their own as the majority don’t have actual powers, other than the power to kick butt.
That being said, The Thunderbolts seems to take place after both Black Widow and Captain America: Brave New World, as there are subtle references to both including the “President who is now the “Red Hulk”.” Drawn together as a political trap in which to destroy themselves, now the team must band together and become the hero’s the world ultimately needs. Can they truly do so or will their differences be the end of them all?
At just over a 2 hour run time, The Thunderbolts will have audiences on the edge of their seats. Packed with the same high energy stunts and comedy along the way, one will never know what is going to happen next. Additionally, those who follow the Marvel timeline will find value in learning just how the Thunderbolts fit into the Marvel Universe including a surprise merge which will be revealed in one of the post credit scenes.
The Thunderbolts came out in theaters May 2nd and is currently playing in one near you.
