“65” Movie Review

It’s a movie 65 years in the making, though one might compare to another Jurassic phenomenon. 65 brings suspense, in a “quiet place” manner.

Sony’s 65 stars Adam Driver, an explorer who is given the mission of discovering other long lost planets, all in an attempt of saving and funding his daughter’s medical expenses. But when his ship crash lands on a seemingly deserted planet with just one other survival, a child who doesn’t speak his language, not it is up to him to find a way to survive and get home.

At roughly an hour and a half, 65 does contain some intriguing and emotional moments, while keeping audiences on the edge of their seats with each dinosaur that tries to attack. Driver stunning has come a long way from his Kilo Ren days as now he takes on more of the paternal attitude both with his own daughter that he must leave and the new one that he finds himself rescuing.

Similarly the young girl playing the stranded girl, Koa (Ariana Greenblatt) has a keen knack of silence, similarly to A Quiet Place which was written and directed by the same team including Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. One can definitely see why Greenblatt was cast as she was able to successfully capture that suspense with very few words.

All in all, 65, though it has hints of other known movies, it does a good job of standing out, especially given it’s small cast. Low budget, but definitely has a way of wowing audiences as it came to theaters, March 10, 2023.
