“Babylon” REVIEW

Damian Chazelle is attempting to bring audiences back to early Hollywood in his latest Babylon. For the most part one can admire what he did do as he shows iconic eras of Hollywood from the 1920’s to the 50’s as Talkies came in to play. That being said, while it was intriguing, one might agrue as to how realistic the film really is.

Addtionally the actors in Babylon, while they did a fair job portraying, it also got to be a little much at times. Specifically Margot Robbie, while she did have a knack for capturing the feel of a typical Hollywood actress who thought she was a gift to Hollywood, that being said, there were times when it got to be too much and it had audiences wondering where the story was really going.

The one actor that kept the movie moving would have to be Brad Pitt who also brought in that typical male actor role of not being able to hold down a successful relationship. The role did mature as we finally see Brad Pitt reflecting with his new wife and kids.

Also newcomer, Diego Calva was a surprise delight as he added to that old time Hollywood vibe. His acting along with Pitt’s was enough to keep you intrigued as you are trying to figure out what is going on.

Lastly, there was a specific musical vibe that lasted throughout the 3 hour runtime as it mirrored the flare of the 20’s jazz with that of the 50’s, specifically the hippy era. That being said, Babylon may not be for everyone as there is strong language a several areas of full nudity, but if one is a true fan of the Hollywood filming in the early 1900’s, That being said, Babylon did come out in theaters and is already being nominated for several films including Best Picture at the Golden Globes.

It is currently playing in a theater near you, just be aware view discretion is strongly advised.
