“Gran Turismo” REVIEW

The game from the 90’s is making its onscreen debut by bringing to life the true story of gamer turned racer.

Grand Turismo stars Midsommar’s Archie Madekwe in a far different role than his Shakespeare days. This time, he is portraying real life racer, Jann Mardenborough in his ever tireless journey to ultimately become one of the greatest racers of his time. The film does show some very distinct highs and lows and Madekwe does and exceptional job of showcasing all the emotion and dedication that the real life boy certainly experienced.

Costarring in this epic film is Pirate’s Orlando Bloom who portrays the man responsible for the little contest as well as Hellboy’s David Harbour, who is definitely cast well. He brings his same Hellboy fire as he is enlisted to find the truly best “Grand Turismo” player. He certainly doesn’t go easy on any of them and ultimately what truly makes Mardenborough shine in the end.

Finally the film wouldn’t be complete without a tough father role and who better to play the kid’s father, but Shazam’s Djimon Hounsou. He, like Harbour, uses the same mannerism as he did in his previous role, while at the same time, adding a sense of emotion toward the end as he realizes just how proud he is.

Grand Turismo, produced by the real life Jann Mardenborough, contains main high impact car stunts done by himself as a stunt double. It leaves audiences on the edge of their seats with hearts pounding and grasping for a cool beverage to fully engage in the action packed movie.

The film came out in theaters August 25, and is currently playing in one near you.
