“Hotel Mumbai” Review

Time is at the essence to protect visitors staying at the Taj Hotel after a massive terrorist attack threatens the lives of all in Mumbai, India.

Based on a true story and set in documentary style, the film captures exceptional acting and directing which has already taken two awards at film festivals including Palm Springs and Adelaide.

Hotel Mumbai stars well known actors including Dev Patel from Academy Award nominee, Lion. In this film, Patel captures the audiences attention with his attentive action and even slight comedian touch as one sees the stereotypes that Americans in particular have on the middle eastern race. He makes even the hardest critic recognize that terrorism isn’t just an American problem but world wide.

Additionally, Patel has a way of interacting with his co-actors including Armie Hammer, who played one of the visitors staying in the hotel with his family. The way the two communicated was spot on from what actually took place in real life.

The film also contains some rough scenes as the director fully delves into the attack even through the eyes of the terrorists themselves. In his first full length film, Anthony Maras doesn’t hold on to anything as he plunges his crew deep into the heart of the middle east.

Filmed in Australia, the film captured gripping scenes of heartache and fright as one wonders will they get out safely.

Hotel Mumbai came out nearly two weeks ago on March 29, 2019 and is recommended for anyone who wishes to have a better appreciation for the terrorism going on throughout the world. It will have audiences on the edge of their seats as the suspense from the plotting of the attack through the eyes of the terrorists themselves will send chills down one’s spine as one will wonder what will happen next.

Rated R for violence, Hotel Mumbai is still playing in select theaters near you and is definitely a classic worthy of ones time and consideration.
