“Rise of Gru” Review

Universal’s lovable minions are back in their all new comedy. This time, set in 1976, Gru still a boy, seeks to join his ultimate villain crew, the Villainous 6. There is one problem though, the villainous 6 thinks Gru is too young to be that bad. In a slight turn to prove himself to the group, Gru decides to steal a green medallion that the Villainous 6 now process which leads him to befriending his ultimate villain idol, Wild Knuckles, who was recently left for dead by the others of the group. Now its a race through the 70’s to find out just what it takes to bad including “finding your own crew”.

Minions: Rise of Gru is by far the most hilarious of the minion franchise as the minions themselves will have you cracking up with all the madness and mayhem that the yellow creatures cook up as they seek to prove to Gru that they have what it takes to be the right crew. We also see revelations in this new prequel including Dr. Nefario and just how Gru gets tangled up with his inventions.

Of course, Steve Carell returns as the voice of Gru as well as Pierre Coffin as the Minions and Russell Brand as Dr. Nefario. Also joining the cast is the voices for the Villainous 6 including Tariji P Henson as Belle Bottom, Danny Trejo as Stronghold, Alan Arkin as Wild Knuckles, Lucy Lawless as Nun-Chuck and Jean- Claude Van Damme as Jean Clawed. All of the wonderful voice talents, truly add to making this film the best minion movie yet.

Together with the iconic music from the 70’s, The Rise of Gru is a fun loving, family comedy that will have children of all ages laughing and throughly enjoying seeing the minions in their newest adventure. The film came out in theaters July 4th weekend and is currently playing in one near you. See it before you’re too late. You won’t be sorry.
