“Sing 2” REVIEW

One of the most anticipated animated sequels of 2021 has hit theaters running and is a must see especially for the young and young at heart. Sing 2 follows after its predecessor where Buster Moon has rebuilt his beloved New Moon Theaters and is continuing to wow audiences with the help of his friends. But that isn’t enough for him as he seeks approval from top theater critic, who on the eve of his opening show, walks out.

Buster Moon asks why and gets the answer that is meant to shatter his dreams. Buster Moon is not about to give up as he learns of a new show search at the Crystal Tower Theater in Red Shore City. The question is will his cast be enough to impress the critics and put on a show of epic proportion?

At an hour and fifty minutes run time, Sing 2 will have audiences singing, dancing, laughing and crying as it has moments for each. The film also show a bit of growth for each of our fun loving animal actors as Rosita, the wife and mother with a dream of stardom, finally gets the opportunity. Johnny also faces new challenges as he if finally able to do his own thing for once in his creative career and Meena, forced to perform a romantic scene finally is brave enough to express her own romantic emotions when she finds her “first” love in Redshore City.

The power cast includes the return of Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon, Reese Witherspoon as Rosetta, Scarlett Johansson as Ash, Tori Kelly as Meena and Taron Egerton as Johnny. It also welcomes Halsey as Porsha and Bono as Clay Calloway.

The only critique one could say is the mission to get Clay Calloway to perform happened a little too fast. It was one scene where he said no and then almost immediately changed his mind. There was little development into what made his drastic change but that being said, the film is entertaining and definitely a perfect way to kick of the new year.

Sing 2 came out in theaters Dec 25 and is currently playing in a theater near you.
