“Spencer” REVIEW

Kirsten Stewart is elegant in the latest adaptation based on the late Princess Diana. Spencer takes us on a journey as the “people’s Princess” is trying to maintain the perception of “princess” to the royal family, while dealing with the inward struggles that someone facing divorce and affairs might be facing. The film, though it’s based on real life people, it is not a true retelling, but rather it is all speculation of what could have been going through Princess Diana’s mind.

Kirsten Stewart did an exceptional job as she stepped into that role. She used a lot of the same emotions that she had in her Twilight Days to fully embrace such an iconic role. She also had a knack of stepping into the role of mother as the film showed the close connection that Diana had with her two sons, William and Harry. It’s that relationship that further drove Diana’s decision to eventually leave her marriage and the royal family.

The filmmakers used subtle images including a scarecrow in Diana’s supposed family home to help the audience see that Diana just wanted to figure out who she was as a person. That and the name of the film told the audience that Diana could not be just an ordinary princess.

Spencer came out in theaters November 5th is currently playing in theaters near you. It’s a movie for the ages as it humanizes the “princess” that America fell in love with in the 90’s as it shows that she was not as perfect as she appeared to be.
