“Heart of Champions” REVIEW

It’s a tale of how to work as a team as former alumni and veteran Jack Murphy returns to turn the dysfuntional rowing team into champions. Egos must be put aside as a new team leader emerges out of tragedy but is it enough to win at Nationals?

Heart Of Champions stars 12 Strong‘s Michael Shannon as Jack Murphy and he excels in the role. We definitely see the same spirit that he had in his tough love for the team as a Veteran facing his own ghosts. Similarly the ego driven captain, Alex is played by Hunger Games Alexander Ludwig who carries the same tone as his Hunger Games’ days.

One exception as we see a little melting point after he gets into a fight with teammate, John (Alex MacNicoll) which ends in a surprise tragedy and ultimate shows a new shift in leadership for the rowing team. Finally Riverdale‘s Charles Melton plays the “new kid” with his own set of secrets and heartbreak as he too shows a growth in leadership at the least probable moment.

All in all, at nearly 2 hours run time, Heart of Champions is definitely. tale of comeback as well as a feel good movie. It will have you laughing, crying and in the end routing for the comeback of the rowing team with the true “Heart of Champions”. The film came out in theaters October 29, 2021 and is currently playing in limited capacity near you.
