“Spinning Gold” REVIEW

It’s the untold true story about Casablanca‘s founder and the struggles he went through in the 70’s to make the recording label everything it is today.

Spinning Gold stars Joyful Noise‘s Jeremy Jordan as Neil Bogart and he seems right in his comfort zone. This new film brings Jordan clearly back to his roots as he sings and dances into our heart and makes us yearn for him when ultimately tragedy strikes in the end.

Ultimately it’s a tale of a boy’s dream that Bogart holds on to as he gambles with some well known singers who at the time seem way ahead of audiences. Bogart doesn’t give up though as he gets more into debt only to find the right voice to send Casablanca soaring to new heights. It highlights many now popular music acts from the 70’s including Kiss, Gladys Knight, and Donna Summer as it shows how unwelcoming audiences were at first listen to these now music legends.

The film also stars Patriot’s Day‘s Michelle Monaghan as Bogart’s wife, Beth and her struggle with loyalty as she slowly watches her husband slip away into what many people in the music industry struggle with; drugs and infidelity. All in all, Monaghan is a perfect compliment to Jordan’s charm and willingness to dream big.

Spinning Gold came out in theaters March 31st and though it has a little bit of competition with Dungeons and Dragons, ultimately it’s a movie that any fan of 70’s music ought to see. It will have you laughing, crying and ultimately yearning in sympathy for the man behind one of the biggest record companies of that era, It’s currently playing in a theater near you.
