“The Jesus Music” Review

Done in documentary style, “The Jesus Music” combines recent interviews with stock video footage as it shows the journey of Contemporary Christian Music from the 70’s to now. The film highlights known artists including Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, DC Talk, Stryper, Tobymac, Kirk Franklin, Mercyme and ChrisTomlin to name a few. Additionally, the film pays special mention to the ongoing controversy that nearly all Christian artist face from the church itself.

Produced by Lionsgate and the Erwin Brothers, The Jesus Music is an exceptional Christian based movie about the humble beginnings of the Contemporary Christian Music revolution. It highlights Southern California and Calvary Chapel which was both praised and condemned for their faith and music.

The film also highlighted evangelist preachers including Billy Graham, Greg Laurie and Jimmy Swaggart as it showed even more deeply the controversy that shook the church and deeply affected the artists who are just trying to bring people to Jesus.

At one hour 48 minutes, The Jesus Movie will have you true engaged and empowered in how Christian Music has humbly grown into the billion dollar industry it is today. It opened Thursday September 30th and is currently playing in a theater near you.

Additionally as a special treat at least for the first day, the Newsboys debuted three of their songs from their latest album, Stand which coincided with the theatrical release.

  1. How can this be made without the most awarded CCM female singer in history, Sandi Patty? It is a glaring omission.
