“Lisa Frankenstein” REVIEW

It’s a modern day Frankenstein- teenage form. When a young girl fills alone in a new school, she finds comfort in one thing, a spooky graveyard. Things get a little weird when she falls for a corpse and decides to dig him up. The moral of the story, if you can’t find someone to love, time to “create” him from scratch so to speak.

Lisa Frankenstein follows inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein while pulling from modern culture to appeal to a younger audience. Directed by Zelda Williams the film does capture the Frankenstein essence while masking some other horror genres together including Freddy Kruger with the axe. That being said, parts of the film may be a little too intense for sensitive eyes. While it doesn’t show anything, the accusations of what is happening, will send chills down your spine.

Additionally the film stars Antman’s Kathryn Newton and Suite Life‘s Cole Sprouse in the ultimate human corpse love story. Both actors do a phenomenal job of displaying chemistry and emotion while they find the important body parts to truly make the monster and man.

At an hour 41 minutes run time, Lisa Frankenstein is truly for any fan of the Frankenstein genre. Being only PG 13, the film does leave allusions that will make one cringe when they realize just what is being done. For that reason viewer discretion is advised and not recommended for the sensitive folks.

Lisa Frankenstein came out in theaters Feb. 9, and though it is a romance type film, it might not be the best for a romantic valentines out. It’s more a a romantic horror gone wrong.
