“Monkey Man” REVIEW

Dev Patel joins Jordan Peele in his first full length directorial debut, Monkey Man. The film sticks to Patels roots as it delves into another Mid east story, this time of a young boy who seeks revenge against the powerful tyrant who murdered his own mother.

Starring Patel as the young boy, the film also reunites him with another Hotel Mumbai actress, (Adithi Kalkunte) as his mother. Monkey Man uses many techniques including flash backs to him and his mother, which helps expand on the motivation for Patel’s revenge. Additionally, as the film is rated R, there is very strong language as well as violence and even a brief sex scene in the middle. The action scenes will keep you on the edge of your seats especially trying to follow the story line from start to finish.

That being said, a word of caution as some of the story might get lost in translation. Be prepared to be on the edge of your seat so you can hopefully follow along.

Monkey Man did come out in theaters April 5 and is currently playing in one near you.
