“Women Talking” Review

The Mennonite Women have three solutions to the hostile brutality that they face in the colony: do nothing, stay and fight or leave. Those aren’t the best choices as the faithful women are asked whether to put their faith on the line to protect their daughters. Women Talking is an epic, fictionalized picture of real life women living in these current conditions in a way that hasn’t been done.

The film stars The Crown‘s Claire Foy along side Nightmare Alley‘s Rooney Mara as two of the fear driven women who is given the toughest decision for the whole colony’s future. That along side Oscar winning Frances McDormand, it creates a powerful movie with a tearful message about truths happening even in today’s day. Set in 2010, the film hits home as it shows that people are still facing domestic violence and being silenced for it.

Nominated for this years Oscars, best picture and adapted screenplay, its no wonder it is up for the challenge. The film is an awesome portrayal of the power of women meant to have no voice. All the actresses add to the drama and emotion that makes it a clear candidate for the Oscars.

Women Talking came out in theaters Christmas day 2021 and is currently playing in one near you. See it before it leaves and make sure to watch the Oscars March 12 at 5 pm pst to see if it takes the top Oscar for best picture.
